Birth of HQM

In the spring of 1989, Anne Frahm was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer ("terminal") that had spread throughout her body. Every possible conventional therapy of the day was enlisted including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and finally even a bone marrow transplant. In the end, none of these served to completely eradicate the disease.

Having exhausted all conventional means in fighting back for her health, she and husband Dave sought out help from a nutritionist. They’d been reading about the growing evidence linking diet with degenerative disease. Through a very strict and intense program of detoxification, diet and supplementation, Anne rebuilt and enhanced the various systems of her body, in particular her immune system. Within a matter of 5 weeks after beginning the program her oncologist could find no cancer in her body.

News travels fast in the cancer fighting network. People began to call, asking what she’d done that had been so helpful. Deciding that they needed to write it all down, a best selling book sprang forth entitled A Cancer Battle Plan.

More and more people began to call. It was obvious that God had put the Frahm’s in a place to help address a "felt need". In 1991 they gave birth to a non-profit organization called HealthQuarters. Their focus was to help people learn about nutrition and health, and in the process use the opportunity to talk to them about the importance of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. As part of their original plan they opened their home for people to come stay with them for two weeks at a time. When that proved to be too much stress on their family, they began to dream of opening a lodge.

Over the years Anne traveled and spoke while Dave read and wrote. More books followed: Healthy Habits, Reclaim Your Health, & A Cancer Battle Plan Sourcebook. A Newsletter was developed. The HQ mailing list soared from a few hundred to thousands. Things were really getting busy! The staff of HealthQuarters grew. Where once it had been just the Frahm’s, there were now nine employees. The name and influence of HealthQuarters was being felt in health circles across the country and around the world.

By late 1994 the HealthQuarters Lodge had been opened. In the process, the overall mission of HealthQuarters as an organization became further refined. It was clear that God was leading HQ efforts to be focused on a particular audience. The mission became, as it is today, to help facilitate health, both physical and spiritual, in the lives of God’s people, thus enabling them to more effectively serve Jesus Christ in His world.

What was once known simply as HealthQuarters, became HealthQuarters Ministries.
